Voters To Decide On Restrictions Proposed For Chatham Airport

An article is being placed on Chatham's town meeting warrant calling for restrictions at the local airport.

Critics of Chatham Municipal Airport scored enough signatures on a petition to put the article before voters May 10th.

They want planes with wingspans of more than 49 feet to be banned from using the airfield, saying they bring safety concerns.

The article is similar to one that was overwhelmingly shot down by voters in 2022.

The town attorney says on the off chance the article did pass, it wouldn't survive the authority of state and federal regulators.
