The Healey-Driscoll Administration has announced support for dam removal studies in eight municipalities, including Barnstable.
The Division of Ecological Restoration [[ DER ]] is describing Mill Pond Dam as a significant hazard dam, in fair condition on the Marstons Mills River and its removal could benefit aquatic species and improve the flood resilience of nearby roadways and homes.
Officials say there are more than three-thousand dams in Massachusetts, and most of them no-longer serve their original purpose, they are falling into disrepair and posing safety risks.
