The Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment says Cape Cod is still experiencing significant drought conditions despite the recent rain and snow.
Officials say while most people associate drought with dry days and hot weather, streamflow and groundwater conditions have actually been worsening on the Cape and across Massachusetts.
The county says the groundwater and reservoir recharge that usually happens at this time of year is lagging, so it's important for residents to conserve water to reduce drought impacts heading into spring.
