Sheriff Buckley Rails Against Healey's Mental Health Cuts

The Barnstable County sheriff is sounding off about Governor Healey's cuts to mental health programs.

Sheriff Donna Buckley penned a letter to Healey opposing the announced closure of the Community Mental Health Center at Pocasset and a reduction in case managers at the state Department of Mental Health.

Buckley says if folks can't get treatment for mental health challenges, the end result will be jails and hospital ERs becoming mental health treatment providers and that's not going to end well.

She believes that funding should instead be increased, saying that 60 to 80-percent of inmates in state prisons suffer from mental illness.
