Yarmouth Police Announce Passing Of Former Chief

Yarmouth Police are announcing the passing of their former Chief, Peter Carnes who died this week after a long illness.

Chief Peter Carnes began his law enforcement career at the age of 18. He was hired by the Wenham, Massachusetts Police Department and attended the Massachusetts State Police Academy in Framingham. He was promoted to Chief in 1984 and served the Town of Wenham in that capacity for 11 years.

Chief Carnes was named the town's Top Cop in 1995 and served in that post for some 13 years.

After his retirement he was tapped as the head of the Stone Hill College Campus Police where he remained for 11 years.

Chief Peter Carnes is being remembered as a true professional "who embraced the challenges of law enforcement with integrity, equality, and honor.

He touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed."

Services for the former Chief have not been released yet.
