The Harwich Fire Department detonated several old military items that were found during the cleanout of a house earlier this week.
A citizen brought the apparent explosives to the Public Safety Complex where Police and Fire secured the items and called the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad.
The items were destroyed by a controlled detonation.
Officials say anyone who finds those types of items should leave them in place so they can be evaluated.
They say the items are often unstable and bringing them to the station can put you at risk and shut down the Complex until they are removed.
