Holtec Awaits Final Decision On Radioactive Waste

The owner of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station awaits a state permit to discharge radioactive water into Cape Cod Bay.

A draft denial was issued last summer, but no final decision has been made.

Holtec International officials say if they are not allowed this course of action, out-of-state shipping is the alternative.

Holtec noted that evaporation of the water is already underway within the plant, but last fall an estimated 950 thousand gallons remained.
