Maine Police Chase Leads To Shooting Of Hyannis Man

A Hyannis man was shot and killed by a police officer in Maine Wednesday night, following a chase that spanned two states.

Police in Conway, New Hampshire were informed about a pickup truck that was speeding at around 6:30 pm.

When an officer approached the driver, 52-year-old Kenneth Ellis, he reportedly drove off and crossed into Maine.

An officer from the Fryeburg department pursued Ellis into the downtown area, where Ellis' truck collided with two vehicles before coming to a stop.

Ellis allegedly emerged from the truck with a knife-when he refused commands to drop the weapon, the officer fired his service pistol and killed Ellis.

A total of seven vehicles were involved in two crashes connected to the incident.

The Maine Attorney General's Office is investigating.
