Each day, countless children across the Cape face hunger and are in need of assistance. Fortunately, the team behind Cape Kid Meals is here to help.
Cape Kid Meals provides weekend food to elementary-aged children who have been identified by their school as being at risk of not having enough to eat over the weekend.
Launched in 2014, the program originally began in two schools. Today, Cape Kid Meals serves 27 schools across the Cape, feeding over 600 children per week.
Each week, Cape Kid Meals packs and delivers bags to participating schools on Friday. School personnel discreetly place the bags into the child's backpack before dismissal.
Each bag contains two breakfast options, two lunch options, healthy snacks, milk and juice, and additional items for long weekends and vacation breaks. All items are shelf-stable and easy to prepare regardless of the child's living situation.
In the wake of COVID-19, Cape Kid Meals is facing a new challenge. Cape Kid Meals, which typically ends with the school year, continued to run their program all summer long and is anticipating an increase in the number of children this fall.
They need your help to ensure their mission can continue.
