The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 11:00am.
The Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage welcome you to the beautiful underwater world of Cape Cod ponds. This remarkable group of women, aged 64-85, swim in the freshwater ponds of Cape Cod collecting trash. Watch footage of their diving adventures, hear tales of their collecting expeditions, and see some of the trash (and treasure!) they discover. These Old Ladies are motivated by their affection for the animals and plants that inhabit ponds.
Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage was formed in 2017, and they have been cleaning up ponds on Cape Cod from Falmouth to Chatham ever since. Gathering small teams of swimmers, they sweep along the shallows, diving down to pick up litter. They have appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, AARP, Yankee TV Series and the Drew Barrymore show.
Join us on Earth Day 2025 to learn about the ways these women channel their strength and respect for the natural world to take concrete actions that preserve the environment.
