FKA Twigs Recalls 'Horrific' Racist Abuse During Robert Pattinson Romance

FKA twigs opened up about the racism she experienced for dating ex-fiance Robert Pattinson.

The “Sad Day” songbird made a painful revelation about the “deeply horrific” racist abuse she suffered from the Twilight actor’s disgruntled fans during the course of their three-year romance (2014-17).

"It was really, really, deeply horrific, and it was at a time where I felt like I couldn't really talk about it," FKA twigs said during an appearance on the Grounded With Louis Theroux podcast. "He was their white Prince Charming, and I think they considered he should definitely be with someone white and blonde and not me. Whatever I did at that time, people would find pictures of monkeys and have me doing the same thing as the monkey.”

As the harassment began to take a toll on her self-esteem over time, the 33-year-old recalled the situation had “this massive dysmorphic effect on me for about six months to a year, where every time I saw my pictures and photographs, I would think, 'Gosh, I look like a monkey and people are gonna say I look like a monkey, so I have to really try and hide this monkeyness that I have, because otherwise people are gonna come for me about it.'"

Elsewhere during the show, FKA twigs also spoke about her tortured relationship with Shia LaBeouf, who the Honey Boy actress claims subjected her to sexual assault and abuse in a December 2020 lawsuit.

In her words, she described him as an abuser who became controlling and proceeded to push her “emotional and spiritual boundaries,” adding that, at times, “He would start an argument with me, berate me for hours, make me feel like the worst person ever.”

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse please contact RAINN at (800) 656-HOPE (4673) where you'll be routed to a local sexual assault service provider in your area.
